Berkeley District 4 Announces Special Election

From the City of Berkeley: A special, vote-by-mail only election will be held in March to fill the vacancy for City Council District 4, which is centered in the downtown.

Use the City's council district locator to see whether you are within district boundaries, and register to vote by February 20. Candidates interested in being on the ballot must file their nomination papers by Friday Dec. 23.

The vacancy was created by the election of the District 4 Councilmember, Jesse Arreguín, to the office of Mayor.

The special election in District 4 was called by the City Council and will be conducted only by mail. All registered voters in District 4 (see map) will receive a ballot and a postage-paid return envelope in the mail. No additional postage will be needed to mail back a ballot. The vote-by-mail period opens on February 6, 2017.

Mailed ballots, which must be postmarked on or before Election Day, can be received by the Registrar of Voters up to three days after Election Day. Voters may also return their ballot by dropping it in the permanent ballot drop box in front of Berkeley City Hall, 2180 Milvia Street, roughly the center of District 4.

In order to vote in the District 4 Special Election on March 7, you must register with the Alameda County Registrar of Voters by Monday, February 20, 2017. You may obtain a voter registration form at the Berkeley Public Library, Berkeley City Hall (2180 Milvia Street), Department of Motor Vehicles, or the county Registrar of Voters.

Alameda County residents can also go online to check their voter profile and registration status.
