Berkeley Man Stabbed By Stranger in Unprovoked Attack
The man was walking near his own home, and didn't know the suspect.
BERKELEY, CA —A man was stabbed in North Berkeley on Friday night in an apparently unprovoked attack but is expected to survive his injuries, police said.
The man was walking close to his home in the 800 block of San Diego Road, which is near John Hinkel Park, at 7:47 p.m. on Friday when a male the suspect approached him and stabbed him in the abdomen, police said.
There was no robbery attempt and the stabbing appeared to be without provocation, according to police.
The victim didn't know the suspect and the stabbing appeared to be random, police said.

The victim was transported to a local hospital to be treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to police.
The suspect is described by police as a white male adult in his 30's with sandy colored hair and several days of facial hair growth who was wearing light-colored clothing and a black backpack. The suspect was last seen leaving on foot in an unknown direction, according to police.

Officers who investigated the stabbing conducted an extensive check of area roads, parks, and yards but were unable to locate the suspect, police said.
Berkeley police said they are actively investigating the stabbing and are asking for assistance from the community. They said anyone who has a video surveillance system who lives within a half-mile radius of the incident should call their homicide unit at (510) 981-5741.
