Berkeley Police Arrest Man, Loaded Assault Rifle Recovered
A 28-year-old Oakland man was arrested during a traffic stop on suspicion of carrying a loaded assault rifle with a high-capacity magazine.

BERKELEY, CA — A 28-year-old Oakland man was arrested in connection with suspected weapons violations late Wednesday night after he was pulled over for a traffic violation.
Berkeley police spotted the man driving without his headlines on in the area of San Pablo Avenue and Virginia Street, police said.
Officers stopped the vehicle around 11:30 p.m. and said they could smell marijuana smoke inside the vehicle. A search of the car uncovered a loaded assault rifle equipped with a high-capacity magazine, police said. The weapon was found in the backseat.

The suspect, whose name was not released, was arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded and concealed firearm, as well as several other weapons violations, police said.
