Berkeley Police are investigating after an officer-involved shooting that occurred near a CVS on Thursday night.

BERKELEY, CA – Berkeley Police are investigating after an officer-involved shooting that occurred near a CVS on Thursday night.
On Thursday just after 9 p.m., a Berkeley Police officer patrolling the area of CVS Pharmacy at 1451 Shattuck Avenue when they came upon an in-progress theft with multiple suspects.
While attempting to detain the suspects, an officer-involved shooting occurred, according to a press release posted to the department's website.

According to police, they have not discovered anyone who was struck by gunfire.
The officer was transported to a local hospital for an injury to her foot that happened during the incident.

Per protocol, the incident is being investigated by the Department's Homicide Unit and Internal Affairs Unit, and the District Attorney's Office has been notified. The officer will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, police said.
