Berkeley, California (Wednesday, July 29, 2020) - We are deeply saddened to report that Berkeley Police Officer Michael Godinez #74 died unexpectedly in his home on Wednesday morning, July 22, 2020.

Officer Godinez was a new officer—still in the Field Training program. A kind, young, bright, energetic man, Officer Godinez’ positive attitude was present in all he did.

“Michael was incredibly proud to serve our community as a member of the Berkeley Police Department and his death is a great loss to us all,” said Chief Andrew Greenwood. “Michael was dedicated to treating people with the utmost respect, regardless of their station in life. He brought that mindset to his work at BPD, as he rose to meet the challenges of our noble profession; he will be missed.”
