BERKELEY — Are you ready to take down your Christmas tree?

For curbside pickup, holiday trees must be cut up and placed in a green compost cart. They must fit with the lid closed. Whole trees won't be picked up if left on the curb, as they can damage the city's collection trucks, according to the announcement.

Trees don't have to be cut up if they're dropped off at the city's transfer station at 1201 2nd St.

The public is reminded to remove all lights, decorations, tinsel, plastic bags, and plastic tree stands.

Flocked or "snow-covered" trees are not compostable. They must be cut up and placed in a gray refuse cart.
