City Council Tackles Changing Table Issue

Can't find a changing table when you truly need one?

BERKELEY, CA — The Berkeley City Council voted last week to require all publicly-accessible city buildings to provide changing tables in both men's and women's restrooms.

The legislation is inspired by federal legislation signed by President Barack Obama in October requiring that federal buildings open to the public have diaper-changing stations in both men's and women's restrooms.

The City Council is looking into also requiring businesses to provide changing stations in either men's and women's restrooms or in gender-neutral restrooms.

The city manager still needs to determine how it would be enforced and come up with the final version of the ordinance to be voted on at a future City Council meeting.
