City's New Permit Service Center Opens Wednesday
The number of staffed stations to wait on people increased by 50 percent.

BERKELEY, CA — Berkeley's new Permit Service Center will open Wednesday, Dec. 14. The city promises improved technology, more accessible space and better coordination with other departments for residents and tradesmen seeking building and planning permits.
For starters, there are 50 percent more counter stations to serve clients. Increasing the number of staffed stations from 8 to 12 should greatly reduce wait times.
There are also larger monitors on rotating arms to allow customers to view plans and revisions alongside staff.
