County Supervisor Issues Commendations on Anniversary of Americans with Disabilities Act

On Tuesday, July 28, 2015, Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson, representing District Five on behalf of the Board of Supervisors, and Mary Nicely, District Director for State Assemblyman Tony Thurmond, presented commendations to Dr. Catherine Kudlick, Director of the Paul K. Longmore Institute on Disability at San Francisco State University, for the July 26th launch of the “Patient No More” Exhibit at the Ed Roberts Campus in Berkeley.

In commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the Exhibit documents and celebrates the moment in 1977 when disabled activists occupied the San Francisco federal building for nearly a month securing a watershed, civil rights victory for disabled people under Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act and launching a disability rights movement that led to passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
