East Bay Cell Phone Street Robbery (Video)

The victim was briefly dragged by the getaway car. Two suspects have been arrested, according to police.

BERKELEY, CA — Berkeley Police have arrested two teens, one from San Leandro an the other from Antioch, for the alleged robbery of a woman waiting for a bus. The victim was briefly dragged by the getaway car, but was not injured.

It happened on Aug.13, at around 5:15 p.m. The 21-year-old woman was near the corner of MLK Jr. Way and Ashby Avenue when a car drove up next to her and the passenger got out and grabbed a cell phone from her hands. The woman hung on, and the result was nearly disastrous.

Berkeley Police detectives identified the driver as 18-year-old Daevon Laquan Hudson of Antioch. He was arrested on Aug. 15 on charges related to the robbery.

A 17-year-old San Leandro boy was arrested on Aug. 30. He is accused of being the thief who grabbed the phone.

The Berkeley Police Department reports that half of street robberies involve people holding electronic devices, or walking alone. They recommend being alert and aware of your surroundings.
