This practical eight-hour course prepares you to recognize and avoid wilderness hazards and to do first aid outdoors with whatever equipment you have or can improvise. On Sept. 18, Wilderness First Aid (in 8 more hours) adds more advanced skills and role-playing scenarios. Participants may do Saturday only or do both days for the higher-level certification. It meets at the Sierra Club chapter office on San Pablo Avenue. To register, email instructor Steve Donelan at donelan@speakeasy.net. Pay instructor on day of class. Fee includes textbook and certification.
Bring lunch and things you would normally have with you on a wilderness trip that could be used to improvise splints, e.g. poles, foam pads, thick jackets, etc. For more information, go to www.wildernessemergencycare.com.
