Good Samaritan Helps Elderly Man With Dementia Find His Way Home

Koichi Kawakami was missing for more than 24 hours when he finally made it home.

BERKELEY, CA — An elderly man who went missing in Berkeley on Sunday was found safe a day later, according to police.

Berkeley police said this morning that the department received a call at 4:53 p.m. Monday from the family of Koichi Kawakami saying that he had returned unharmed.

Kawakami had last been seen on Sunday afternoon in the 1900 block of Ward Street and suffers from dementia and memory loss, police said.

The family and Police Department thanked the good Samaritan who helped Kawakami find his way home.

Police did not release any other details about how he returned home.
