Gun Charges: Two Arrests in Berkeley

Two vehicle stops ended with gun arrests and weapons seized.

BERKELEY, CA — Two people were arrested on alleged gun offenses over the weekend in Berkeley, police said Tuesday.

At 9:30 p.m. on Friday a Berkeley police officer stopped a Chevrolet vehicle near Sixth and Jones streets for a vehicle code violation. Police said their officer searched the vehicle and allegedly found a loaded, stolen gun underneath the driver's seat. Sacramento man Gerald Alderson, 31, was arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed gun, being a felon in possession of a gun, possession of narcotics paraphernalia and possession of stolen property. Police said Alderson was taken to Berkeley jail. He has been moved to the county jail on $75,000 bail.

Sunday at 12:30 a.m. an officer stopped a vehicle near Acton Street and University Avenue for a vehicle code violation. When the officer searched the vehicle, the officer allegedly found a loaded gun on the floor underneath the driver's seat. Police allege the gun's serial number had been removed. The officer arrested the driver of the vehicle who's been identified as 22-year-old Oakland man Jalen Bryant. Bryant was arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded gun in public, carrying a concealed gun and possession of a gun without an identification mark. Bryant was first taken to the Berkeley jail and has since been moved to the county jail.
