Man Struck, Killed by Amtrak Train Identified

Railroad officials said the victim apparently was trying to cross over the tracks when he was struck by the train.

BERKELEY, CA: A man who was struck and killed by an Amtrak Capitol Corridor train in Berkeley late Monday morning was identified by the Alameda County coroner’s bureau today as 47-year-old Daniel Stalker. Stalker, who authorities believe was a transient, was struck and killed by train No. 535 traveling from Sacramento to San Jose, Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said.

Union Pacific spokesman Francisco Castillo said the collision occurred around 11:55 a.m. Monday near Bancroft Way and Fourth Street. Stalker apparently was trying to cross over the tracks when he was struck by the train, which was going between 20 and 30 mph, Castillo said. No injuries were reported to the 101 passengers and crew members on the train, Graham said.
