Mountain Lion Spotted Near Lawrence Hall Of Science
The big cat looked toward a couple seated on a bench, then walked away.

BERKELEY, CA —A mountain lion was spotted Thursday evening outside the Lawrence Hall of Science in the Berkeley hills, near the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory fence line, university police said today.
A couple seated on a bench west of the Vista Lot at the Lawrence Hall of Science around 6:30 p.m. saw the big cat down the hill near the east fence line, on the lab's side of the fence, police said. It looked toward the couple, then walked away.
Wildlife experts say several sightings of mountain lions have occurred in the past couple of years in the hills above the University of California at Berkeley campus. The animals are likely seeking deer, a major food source for mountain lions.

Anyone who encounters a mountain lion is urged not to approach it, especially if it is feeding or with its young, officials say.
Most lions will avoid confrontation if people give them a way to escape. Avoid running. Instead a person should face the animal, make noise and try to look larger by raising their arms and throwing rocks or other objects.
