New Security Cameras To Fight Crime: Berkeley City Council Agenda

The City has released a list of intersections where the cameras are prioritized. The City Council will meet Tuesday evening at 6 p.m.

BERKELEY, CA — Berkeley residents have expressed concern about an increase in violent crimes in the city. The crimes include shootings, stabbings, organized retail crime and more.

To help prevent crimes or solve them once they occur, additional security cameras are proposed at intersections where violent crime is increasing and at arterial streets that offer entry and exit points for Berkeley.

The intersections that are prioritized for security camera installation include:

  • Alcatraz and College
  • Woolsey and Telegraph
  • Woolsey and Shattuck
  • Alcatraz and Adeline
  • Alcatraz and Sacramento

The proposal will authorize additional security cameras, prominent signage, and increased lighting in the public right-of-way.

The proposal will come before the Berkeley City Council Tuesday evening. The meeting will start at 6 p.m. at 1231 Addison St. in Berkeley.

You may also watch the meeting via Zoom or call-in at 669-254-5252. The meeting ID is 160 065 4738.
