Power Outage Affects Thousands in Berkeley

Power has been restored to about half of PG&E customers that were affected. It will take hours for all of the lights to come back on.

A power outage affected more than 5,800 PG&E customers in Berkeley today and about half of those customers remain without power, a utility spokeswoman said.

The outage was reported at 11:36 a.m. along Martin Luther King Jr. Way between University Avenue and Berryman Street, as well as other nearby areas, PG&E spokeswoman Mayra Tostado said.

Crews have worked to restore power to roughly half of the affected customers, but 2,748 remain without power. Full restoration is expected before 4 p.m.

The cause of the outage is under investigation, Tostado said.
