Softball: Berkeley Closing in on Playoff Berth

After dropping six of its first nine games this season, the softball team wasn't in position to start dreaming about making the postseason.

Lena Mayer leads the team with 29 hits, Camille Jackson has the most runs (30) and RBI (29), Sarah Hoynes leads the team with a .448 batting average while Clara Obstfeld and Jackson both have three home runs.

Today's home game against doesn't figure to be much of a challenge for Berkeley, which topped the Gauchos 25-2 in their previous meeting.
After two games next week, the 'Jackets will look to continue their season in the North Coast Section playoffs. They'll have to apply for an at-large bid though, as Pinole Valley (19-1) is running away with the Alameda Contra Costa Athletic League title.
