Suspicious Berkeley Shed Fire Under Investigation

A man was seen banging on the shed shortly before the fire started.

BERKELEY, CA — Police are investigating an arson that occurred early Tuesday morning near the University of California at Berkeley's boiler building.

The fire was reported at 5:12 a.m. as a shed was burning on the corner of Haste and Bowditch streets on the northeast corner of People's Park.

The shed was located near the boiler building in the southeast part of the Anna Head parking lot.

Police said firefighters extinguished the fire, which consumed the shed and slightly damaged the boiler building.

Police said a witness told them that a male suspect was banging on the shed shortly before the fire started.
