UC Berkeley Grad Schools Rank Among Top Programs: U.S. News

U.S. News & World Report has released its 2020 rankings of the best graduate schools in the country and UC Berkeley featured prominently.

BERKELEY, CA — UC Berkeley has distinguished itself as one of the top universities in the world, and new rankings of graduate programs by US News & World Report demonstrate its dominance in multiple fields.

The rankings for 2020 evaluate programs in business, law, health, engineering, education and more, according to U.S. News. The publication explained the rankings are unique for each field.

U.S. News says government data shows that both master’s and doctorate-level jobs are forecast to increase in the near future.

“Whether you’re looking to pursue a degree in law, medicine or business, the best graduate schools rankings offer the in-depth data and information you need to start your search,” Anita Narayan, managing editor of education at U.S. News, said in a press release. “You can compare data on factors that most interest you — whether that’s how many law students pass the bar and are employed at graduation, or the student-faculty ratio and research expenditures at engineering schools.”

Business

The Haas School of Business at University of California-Berkeley was ranked 6th in the nation for Business Schools. US News noted, "Graduate students at the Haas School of Business benefit from the school’s location near San Francisco, a hotbed of major businesses like Google and Visa. It’s a convenient place to find internships and jobs to supplement a business education. Through the Haas@Work program, students are assigned to projects at both local and global companies."

Engineering

The College of Engineering at University of California-Berkeley truly shines, coming in No.3 overall, and No. 1 in multiple specialties. Of the overall program, US News notes, "The 2018 Ph.D. student-faculty ratio is 5.6:1. The College of Engineering at University of California-Berkeley has 253 full-time faculty on staff." For this expertise, in-state tuition is just $11,442 per year.

The UC Berkeley School of Law was ranked 10th best in the nation. US News point out,"The law school has pioneered curriculums like intellectual property law and technology-related law and offers specialized curricular programs in areas such as Energy and Clean Technology Law and Environmental Law."

Health

Three specialties at the UC Berkeley School of Health were evaluated and all three landed in the Top 10 of best programs int he country. Clinical Psychology is tied for No. 2, Social Work is tied for No. 3, while Public Health is tied for No. 9.

Education

UC-Berkeley’s Graduate School of Education is ranked 18th in the nation. US News notes an impressive "28 full-time faculty on staff with a 5.9:1 ratio of full-time equivalent doctoral students to full-time faculty."

U.S. News says in its methodology that the rankings are based on two types of data: expert opinions and “statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school’s faculty, research and students.” Statistical indicators include inputs like admission test scores and outputs like starting salaries.
