White House Honors Scientists From UC Berkeley, Berkeley Lab
Chenming Hu and Paul Alivisatos were among four in the Bay Area to receive National Medals of Science, Technology.

President Obama honored four Bay Area scientists this year with the country’s highest scientific honor, according to the National Science Foundation.

Albert Bandura of Stanford University, Stanley Falkow of the Stanford University School of Medicine and Armand Paul Alivisatos of the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab were each awarded the National Medal of Science.
Chenming Hu of the University of California at Berkeley was awarded the National Medal of Technology and Innovation.

“Science and technology are fundamental to solving some of our Nation’s biggest challenges,” President Obama said in a statement.
“The knowledge produced by these Americans today will carry our country’s legacy of innovation forward and continue to help countless others around the world. Their work is a testament to American ingenuity.”
