Fentanyl Trafficking Ring Leader With Oakland Ties Gets 14 Years In Prison: DOJ
The defendant was extradited from Honduras to face charges, authorities said.
OAKLAND, CA — A Honduran man was sentenced to 14 years in federal prison on Monday for his role as the leader of a fentanyl trafficking ring that operated out of multiple cities, including Oakland, authorities said.
Federal prosecutors say Abner Estrada Cruz, 27, pleaded guilty in May to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute at least 400 grams of fentanyl.
"Through at least seven intermediaries, Cruz coordinated the sale of 14 pounds of fentanyl powder into the Eastern District of California," according to the United States Department of Justice. "He was ultimately extradited from Honduras to face the charges in this case."

One co-conspirator, Yahir Alexander Arteaga Cruz, pleaded guilty to an additional four counts of distribution of fentanyl. It's unclear whether Arteaga Cruz is related to the 27-year-old Cruz.
