Beverly Hills High Students Excel Far And Wide

Despite a hard year, BHHS students are racking up a diverse array of awards and recongitions, including three National Merit finalists.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — Everyone agrees that learning from behind a computer screen is tough in all kinds of ways, but that hasn’t stopped a slew of Beverly Hills High School students from excelling in all kinds of areas, from music to writing to broadcasting. Here is just a small glimpse of the talent of BHHS students:

  • Seniors Parsa A. Farnad, Bradley K. Moon, and Nicholas M. Walker have been recognized as National Merit Finalists. Farnad, Moon, and Walker, who were named as semifinalists in September, ranked in the top 15,000 scorers of the 1.5 million students who took the PSAT exam in their junior year.
  • Senior Sophie Szew was selected as a literary apprentice by the Poetry Team at the BreakBread Literacy Project, a competitive internship for writers who “lack access to the traditional literary world.” Szew, a first-generation immigrant who has written about her struggles with anorexia and mental health, has been published in FEAST, Tipping the Scales Literary Journal, the She Speaks Anthology, the Teen Authors Boot Camp Poetry Collection, and the BHHS Literary Magazine. She also founded an advocacy organization called DemystifiED, where some of her work is also published.
  • Senior Max Menache, a tight end, linebacker, and long snapper for the BHHS Normans football team, signed a national letter of intent to play football at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota next fall. Menache also runs track and has maintained a 4.1 average GPA.
  • Sophomore violinist Suhh Yeon Kim was accepted into the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association’s 2020-21 Honor Orchestra. Kim auditioned along with 400 other Southern California students, and will take part in a virtual classical performance in the spring.
  • BHHS students won a total of 15 medals at the 2021 SkillsUSA Regional competition, an organization showcasing technical expertise. BHHS students won medals in the baking, broadcast, job demo, and radio categories.

Not too shabby, Beverly Hills!
