Beverly Hills Works To 'Stop The Bleed' To Save Lives

Beverly Hills will be one of the first cities to include the "Stop the Bleed" kits in government and school district buildings.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – Beverly Hills will become one of the first cities in the country to place Stop the Bleed kits in all government and school district buildings in a "proactive effort to care for the injured during an emergency," the city announced last week. Stop the Bleed is a national campaign that encourages bystanders to become trained first responders and help in a bleeding emergency before medical professionals arrive, the city press release said.

"A person who is bleeding can die from blood loss within five minutes, therefore it is important to quickly stop the blood loss," according to the Department of Homeland Security website. "Those nearest to someone with life threatening injuries are best positioned to provide first care."

Each kit includes a military-style tourniquet, compression bandage, gauze, protective gloves, and instructional material on bleeding control.

“These kits can mean the difference between life and death,” Les Bronte, of Beverly Hills CPR, said. “We are proud to be the first City to make these kits widely available and raise awareness about their use.”

Beverly Hills CPR will instruct and certify all Beverly Hills Police Department officers over the next few weeks, and, in collaboration with BHPD and Cedars-Sinai Hospital, will offer instructional classes to the public, the press release said.
