BEVERLY HILLS, CA — Beverly Vista Middle School Principal Kevin Allen announced that he will be retiring at the end of the 2020-21 school year.

“It is bittersweet for me to announce that I will be retiring at the end of this school year,” Allen said. “After more than 30 years in this profession, serving as the Principal at both El Rodeo and BVMS have been my greatest pleasure. I have come to love this District and community and find it to be my second home. While I look forward to the next stage of my life and the new adventures that it will bring, I will always remember this experience and all that we accomplished together.”

Allen joined BHUSD in 2014 as principal of the El Rodeo School. Not long after Allen came on board, the school needed to be shut down due to a seismic shift. He helped move the school into portable classrooms, and helped guide the school through construction. Under his leadership, the school achieved California Distinguished Schools status.

Allen oversaw the establishment of Beverly Vista Middle School, the first middle school in the history of BHUSD. Although the coronavirus pandemic physically closed the school only a year just a year after its founding, Allen helped the new school transition to remote learning.

“I commend Mr. Allen for shepherding BVMS through this unprecedented educational challenge,” Superintendent Dr. Michael Bregy said in a statement. “Shifting so quickly after becoming a consolidated school to remote learning could have fractured an infant school however, Mr. Allen remained steadfast in his commitment to learning targets, professional development, student support, and a positive culture. We will always be grateful to Mr. Allen who has truly shaped the future of our District for every student to come.”

Bregy said that the district will begin searching for Allen’s replacement, a search in which Allen said he is not involved.

“Please know that while I am not a part of the selection process for my replacement, I have assured Dr. Bregy, our Superintendent, that I will be actively involved and committed to the smooth transition to ensure the continued success of our school,” Allen said. “BVMS is more than just a school, it is a community that I have poured my heart into for the past two years. It takes a village and this village has been a pleasure to serve.”
