BHHS Wrestlers Medal at Turkey Duals

Building off its success from last year, the Beverly Hills High wrestling program showed that it is poised for another winning season by earning 14 gold and 12 silver medals in the annual Turkey Duals over Thanksgiving weekend at Chaminade Prep in West Hills.

The Normans' varsity, junior varsity and frosh/soph squads all went 4-1. The frosh/soph team took first place.

Varsity's only loss was to powerhouse St. John Bosco of Bellflower. BHHS beat Westlake 48-36, Studio City Harvard-Westlake 42-39, Monroe 60-18 and host Chaminade 58-18. In the 162-pound weight class, Ralph Yun won all five of his matches to take the gold medal. In the 154-pound division, Dylan Lojac posted a 4-1 record to earn the gold medal while Beau Shane was 4-1 to earn gold in the 128-pound class.

Earning varsity silver medals were Nathan Bahk (4-1 in the 108-pound weight division), Matthew Kohanbash (4-1 in the 122-pound weight class), Dakota Anderson (4-1 in the 140-pound division) and Marshall Stevens (4-1 in the 197-pound class).

For the junior varsity, Macengo Maeda went undefeated on his way to the gold medal in the 113-pound division, as did Brett Shane in the 126-pound class and Eddie Hong at 160. Axel Pinotti was the victor in each of his four matches to earn the gold at heavyweight, Mason Segal went 4-1 to win the 106-pound category and three other JV wrestlers were awarded silver medals: Mazi Saghian (3-2 at 138 pounds); Alan Abselet (4-1 at 152 pounds) and Joseph Choi (3-2 at 171 pounds). 

The Normans won their first-ever Pioneer League match over Santa Monica last season and qualified six wrestlers for the CIF Meet. Beverly Hills' head coach is Mark Mead and the assistant coach is .
