Poodle

Poodles (which include toy, miniature, and standard poodles) are the fifth-most-registered dog in Los Angeles with 7,114 registrations in 2016.

Did you know? There's still a dispute over the origins of the poodle – some say poodles descended from the old French Barbet breed or from Germany as a type of water dog.

Pit Bull

Pit bulls are the sixth-most-registered dog in LA with 5,152 registrations in 2016. Although many breeds can be classified as pit bull, LA Times only looked at dogs registered as pit bull.

Did you know? The term 'pit bull' is often used to describe dogs with similar physical characteristics, and the physical variation amongst "bully breed" dogs makes it difficult for anyone – even experts – to identify them visually as distinct from "non-pit bulls."
