Cinderella Season Ends for BHHS Basketball

The Normans fall to Pasadena in the CIF Southern Section Division 3AAA semifinals.

Despite a game-high 23 points from senior point guard and captain Austin Mills, and four three-point baskets by sophomore Siavache Yoktafar, the boys basketball team lost to Pasadena 81-67 last Friday at Muir High in the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 3AAA playoffs.

The 14th-seeded Normans (20-10) were hoping to reach their first section final in more than 40 years, but they fell behind by as many as 17 points in the second half against the second-seeded Bulldogs (24-6), who advanced to the section finals for the second time in three years.

Pasadena will play eighth-seeded Arroyo Grande (22-8) for the championship Friday or Saturday.

Beverly Hills stayed close for the first two quarters and trailed only 37-32 at halftime. However, the Normans couldn't cope with Brandon Jolley and Blake Hamilton, who finished with 22 and 19 points, respectively, for Pasadena.

The Normans captured a CIF Division title back in 1969 under coach Charlie Reilly, beating Santa Maria 74-62 in the finals.
