City Clerk Presented with Friendly City Award
Beverly Hills City Clerk Byron Pope was honored by the city council for his 10 years of service to the city.
Being the city clerk of a well-known community is not your average desk job.
For more than 10 years, Byron Pope has held the position of city clerk in Beverly Hills. Besides attending city council meetings, Pope plans, supervises and conducts all municipal elections, maintains official minutes of all proceedings, records, ordinances, resolutions, contracts and other official city documents and public records, and administers the city's records program, as well as a long list of other responsibilities.
In recognition of his service, the City Council presented Pope with a Friendly City Award—which recognizes people for helping make Beverly Hills a friendlier place—at the Aug. 17 council meeting.

"This is an honor. I appreciate it," Pope said. "In my 10 and a half years ... there have been ups and downs, but the city has been my family. I really thank you for trusting me with this position."
Pope, who was appointed in 2005, is a member of the City Clerks Association of California, the National Notary Association, the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and the Administrative Services Policy Committee—League of California Cities. He was the League's presidential appointee for 2008.

Councilwoman Nancy Krasne said that if she could describe Pope in one or two words, they would be "personal integrity." Vice Mayor Barry Brucker agreed, describing him as "a man with integrity and class."
