City Officials to Discuss Recent Accidents, Safety Issues in Trousdale Area

After three serious accidents on Loma Vista Drive – two of them fatal, both involving Los Angeles police officers – the city of Beverly Hills announced a public meeting to address safety concerns.

A liaison meeting of two appointed Traffic and Parking commissioners and two councilmembers will be held 9 a.m. Thursday in the Municipal Gallery at City Hall, 455 N Rexford Drive.

The topic: additional safety measures for the Trousdale area of Beverly Hills.  

Residents are welcome to address the panel.

“The safety of Beverly Hills’ streets is a critical priority and the city is aggressively pursuing longer term measures, including revising building permit requirements to include strict vehicle safety measures and new heavy haul routes,” says a city press release issued today.

In March, a veteran LAPD training officer, Nicholas Lee, was killed when a trash truck rammed into his squad car.

Then in early May, a cement truck toppled on its side, seriously injuring the driver.

Days later, the city commissioned a traffic study from engineering firm Fehr & Peers to come up with recommendations by the end of the month.

Then just Friday, a cement mixer struck a pickup truck and killed an off-duty LAPD detective.

City officials responded by immediately suspending heavy vehicle delivery and pick up in the Trousdale area.

“To enforce the suspension, traffic control officers and signage are deployed at both north and south entrances to Loma Vista to prevent large trucks from entering the area,” according to a city press release. “Overall enforcement efforts to ensure that speeding laws are followed have been increased.”
