Earlier Deadline For Enrolling New BHUSD Students
Register your child by May 16 to guarantee him or her a spot at the city school nearest to your home.
Parents with children new to the district who want to guarantee their child a spot at the Beverly Hills school nearest to their home must register their child by May 16.
In recent years, the Beverly Hills Unified School District had required that new parents register their child by June 30.
The earlier deadline will help BHUSD officials make quicker decisions about how many teachers are needed in each school. In the past, a rush of student registrations at the end of June forced the district to reallocate teachers over the summer.

The four K-8 schools have limited capacities in each grade level. Students who enroll in their neighborhood school after May 16 may be assigned to another city school with more available space.
“We don’t want any family to get caught off guard” by the earlier deadline, Superintendent Dick Douglas said in e-mail Sunday to existing school families. “Families with school-aged children who are planning to enroll or return to their home school in the Beverly Hills district next year are encouraged to enroll as soon as possible."

By law, Beverly Hills must accommodate any student who moves into the district at any time, but BHUSD does not have to enroll the student at the school closest to his or her home. The guarantee of one’s home school is a perk for residents. Board members discussed getting rid of the guarantee altogether, but opted instead to consider doing so in future years.
