GOP Is 'Mad Even When They Win,' Obama Said At Fundraiser

At a Beverly Hills fundraiser, Barack Obama compared his time in office with President Trump, without ever mentioning the president's name.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – At a Beverly Hills fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee Thursday night, former president Barack Obama noted the "other side" seems angry all the time.

“They’re mad even when they win. Have you noticed that? They don’t look happy at all," he said.

The former president also compared his eight years in office to the current administration, without ever mentioning the president's name, Los Angeles Times reported.

“To a large degree, we are seeing a competition between two stories,” Obama told a group of about 200 at the fundraiser. There's the story based largely in fear, and there's a story based largely in hope, he told DNC Chairman Tom Perez during a conversation at the event.

"There’s the story that says we’re in it together, and there’s the story that says there’s an us and them,” he said, according to My News LA.

The conversation between the former president and Perez went on for 48 minutes, according to Los Angeles Times.

“There’s a fundamental contrast of how we view the world,” Obama said, “and I think we are seeing the consequences of when one vision is realized, or at least in charge.”

The former president then stressed the importance of the midterm elections, praising the "extraordinarily powerful" movement of the influx of women running for office, the newspaper reported.

“I would caution us from extrapolating too much from a bunch of special elections and starting to think that, ‘OK, this will take care of itself.’ Because it won’t,” Obama said, according to Los Angeles Times. “Fear is powerful.”

He warned that going back to "business as usual," or assuming momentum from those races will carry Democrats through November won't work, Los Angeles Times reported.

Tickets cost between $2,700 to $100,000 to attend the Obama-Perez discussion, which included a performance by singer Christina Aguilera, according to Fox News.
