Gray Runs Her Best to Qualify for State Finals
The BHHS senior clocks 2:12.49 in the 800 meters at the Masters Meet.
Another race produced another personal record for Beverly Hills High School senior Sydney Gray on Friday during the CIF Masters Meet at Cerritos College.
Gray entered as the 10th-seeded runner in a field of 12 in the 800 meters and finished in ninth place. Her time of 2:12.49 automatically qualifies her for the CIF State Track & Field Championships June 3-4 at Buchanan High School in Clovis.
Amy Weissenbach of Harvard-Westlake High School in North Hollywood won the event in 2:06.18.

Gray took first place in the 800 meters at the with a time of 2:13.51, making her the only Normans runner to advance to the Masters Meet.
Gray's 800-meter time currently ranks 64th in the United States this season. In order to attain high school All-American status she needs to be in the top 50 nationally. She has the fourth-fastest time in BHHS history.

Raquel Hefflin is the school record holder in the event, running 2:11.12 at last year's state meet. Barbara Gottlieb ran 2:11.64 in 1981 and Cynthia Warner clocked 2:11.80 in 1977.
"This year it's probably going to take running in the 2:10s [at state finals] to be in the top 50 nationally," BHHS track coach Jeff Fisher said. "The competition keeps getting faster and faster."
The George Washington University-bound Gray also ran cross country and played soccer for the Normans.
