OBIT: Bob O'Connor, Retired BHPD Officer

In his retirement years, he became a PGA golf instructor at Pierce college and worked at Encino/Balboa Golf Course.

The Beverly Hills Police Department is saddened to announce the passing of retired BHPD Officer Bob O'Connor.

Passed away on May 5, 2014. He was born in Chicago, Illinois 1935, Bob was married for over 50 years to his childhood sweetheart, Mary Rita, (now deceased). He was a long time resident of the San Fernando Valley. 

After earning an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Navy, he became a Beverly Hills Police Department Officer 1963- 1985 where he retired. Bob was assigned to the Traffic Division and created the Police Department Golf League. In his retirement years, he followed his passion for golf and became a PGA Golf Instructor, teaching golf at both Pierce and LA community colleges, as well as working at Encino/Balboa and Van Nuys golf courses. 

Bob was a beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He is survived by his daughter, Angie; son, Tim, and daughter-in-law, Mardie; grandsons, Christopher and Matthew; sister, Maureen; brother, John, (Tania); and many loving nieces and nephews. 

He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, constant optimistic demeanor, enthusiasm, years of service as a police officer, selfless help to others, and avid pursuit of golf. 

A Funeral Service will be held Friday, May 16th, 3:00 p.m., at St. Cyril of Jerusalem Catholic Church 15520 Ventura Blvd. Encino.
