School Starts in Beverly Hills
City schools welcome students and their parents Tuesday as the new academic year begins.
Beverly Hills students returned to school Tuesday and the various wasted no time getting families into back-to-school mode.
At and , parents were welcomed with coffee and bagels during the morning drop-off period. PTA members and school officials were on hand to answer questions.
El Rodeo held an ice cream social for new families last week and there will be a new parent meeting at a private home Thursday evening. Contact the El Rodeo PTA via email for information about the gathering.

At , opening day concluded a weekend of activities designed to welcome new and existing families to the campus. The Horace Mann PTA held an ice cream social for new students and their families Saturday, with more than 250 people in attendance.
On Sunday morning, the school hosted a “welcome back” pancake breakfast for an estimated 500 students and family members.

“The welcome back breakfast allows Horace Mann parents and students alike to ease back into the school year in a fun and relaxed atmosphere," school PTA President Howard Goldstein said.
Horace Mann PTA activities resume right away with its first indoor movie night of the year Friday. Rango, rated PG, will be screened in the school’s auditorium at 6:30 p.m. There is free admission for the entire community, with pizza and snacks available for sale before the movie.
This year marks the last time that students return to school after . Beginning next year, the Beverly Hills Unified School District—along with many districts in California—will move up the start of the school year to the third week of August. In 2013, the BHUSD school year is expected to start .
