WORLD PREMIERE OF “SARAJEVO” TO OPEN
9th SOUTH EAST EUROPEAN FILM FESTIVAL ON MAY 1st
World premiere of Andreas Prochaska’s SARAJEVO, an Austrian-German co-production, will open the 9th annual South East European Film Festival on May 1 at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills. SARAJEVO tops the must-SEE selection of films anchoring the 2014 festival, a program receiving this year the special support from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The 100th anniversary of the events in Sarajevo in 1914 which led to WWI and changed the world are the backdrop for a thriller focusing on the examining magistrate investigating the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. “ORF, the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation, is committed to a tradition of revisiting the major turning points in our history,” says Klaus Lintschinger, Head of TV Features, who will be attending the premiere. “The centennial of the assassination that in the summer of 1914 started the First World War gave us an opportunity to, together with our partners at Germany’s ZDF network and Viennese production company Dor-Film, develop a movie that casts a new light on these fateful events. The script by Martin Ambrosch asks that decisive question as to the responsibility of the individual in the face of seemingly irresistible historical developments.”
SEEfest, the South East European Film Festival, runs May 1-5. The theme of the 2014 edition of the festival is “Europe in time of turmoil”, highlighting the turbulent past that looms large over the present. “We look for films that create an in-depth portrait of South East Europe for American audiences, “ says Vera Mijojlic, Director of SEEfest. “The premiere of SARAJEVO is a unique, not-to-be-missed event of this year’s festival and we are grateful to our Austrian and German partners for the opportunity to present it in full splendor at the Writers Guild Theater on May 1.”
World and North American premieres of feature films, shorts and documentaries at the 2014 festival include thrillers, comedies, melodramas, with filmmaker from Europe as well as industry guests from Hollywood. The festival’s Business Conference, now in its sixth year, connects S.E. European filmmakers with their American counterparts and Hollywood executives. In the past, featured speakers have included representatives from Warner Brothers, Walt Disney Studio, Mace Neufeld Productions and Relativity Media.
