Standout Student: Carly Stone
Carly Stone is busy working at the Beverly Hills Farmers' Market and running her own cooking class this summer.

Some of Beverly's finest are skipping summertime at the beach for a lesson in the classroom. Others are participating in community service programs or internships. Patch caught up with these standout Normans to talk about their plans. We'll be featuring new students throughout the summer months.
Incoming junior Carly Stone, 15, has been busy with peaches and cooking this summer. Aside from working at the Beverly Hills Farmers' Market on Sundays selling stone fruits, she sells homemade desserts to friends and family, all while running a summer cooking camp for kids. Stone instructs 5-8 year olds how to make tasty snacks, from chocolate chip cookies to cheddar cheese crackers.
"I love being with kids and I love to cook so combining the two and starting a camp has been an amazing way to spend a few weeks of my summer," Stone said. "The kids had a lot of fun and hopefully learned a lot. I learned from them too. Their excitement is really contagious and definitely livened up each day."

Stone is running another camp session at the end of the summer. She also plans to work at the farmers' market into November 2010.
"I'm excited to come up with the new recipes my campers will be making next session," Stone said. "Who knows…maybe I'll have them make a dish with peaches from the farmer's market!"
