Watching the Royal Wedding

Be a part of history at the Montage Hotel's High Tea, or stay at home and watch the festivities in your pajamas.

Royal wedding invite didn't make it to your mailbox? No worries. There's no reason not to celebrate.

One opulent option close to home—and at a more civilized hour for us Yanks—is the royal wedding viewing party during afternoon tea at the on Friday from 12-4 p.m. The pre-recorded BBC coverage of Prince William and Kate Middleton's royal wedding and the pre- and post-event highlights will be broadcast in the Montage's lobby lounge and library.

"We chose the BBC coverage for a more authentic British experience, and with fewer commercial interruptions," the hotel's Public Relations and Marketing Manager Kristy Karlovec told Patch. "It's history-in-the-making.”

Artisan teas and scones, as well as sandwiches and pastries prepared by pastry chef Richard Ruskell (from Food Network's Last Cake Standing) are served on the hotel's custom fine china, which was hand-painted by local porcelain artist Lissa Kaplan. Traditional Tea ($39 a person) gets you sandwiches, scones and pastries; an upgraded Royal Tea option offers a choice of pomegranate or Kir Royale Champagne, priced at $51 and $61, respectively, for each guest.

Want to catch the nuptials in real time from the comfort of your own castle? Fiona Karlin, a Beverly Hills neighbor who arrived from across the pond more than 30 years ago, suggests immersing yourself in some real British culture.

First off, make a full-out English breakfast with a starter of fruit juice and maybe prunes, then eggs, bacon, sausage or a fry-up. Drink some English Breakfast tea with milk, toast and marmalade. (I'll skip the broiled sheep kidneys noted in a book from Queen Victoria's day.)

What to wear so early in the morning? Pajamas may be allowed, but "certainly not sweats," Karlin said. Better yet, put on something pretty. A dress for a garden party, perhaps. While the world will be watching for the first glimpse of the wedding gown, Karlin also suggests taking some time "to admire the gorgeous architecture of Westminster Abbey." After all, it was built during the Golden Age of Architecture.

Hungry for the pop culture side of all this pomp? Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star and London native Lisa Vanderpump will quip about all things royal for CNN starting at 3 a.m. Friday.
