Notice Inviting Bids for the Division Well No. 9 Equipping (bigbeargrizzly.net) — Big Bear Lake’s Department of Water & Power is seeking contractors to equip Division Well No. 9, including a new building, pump equipment, and site upgrades that support the city’s water system. A mandatory pre-bid conference is set for September 4 at the DWP office on Garstin Drive, with sealed bids due September 11.

Why bald eagle Jackie's remains have 'spiritual significance' (kentucky.com) — Big Bear Lake’s beloved bald eagle Jackie, star of the local nest cam, has died after weeks of intensive treatment at the Ojai Raptor Center, leaving many mountain residents and global fans grieving. Wildlife officials are conducting a necropsy, and her remains will go to the National Eagle Repository, where they may be used in Native American religious and cultural practices honoring eagles’ spiritual significance.
   

3. Two hours from L.A., this beautiful mountain town is throwing its biggest stargazing festival of the year— three days of NASA talks, telescope viewing, and dark-sky adventures (secretlosangeles.com) — Big Bear Lake is hosting SkyFest Big Bear from August 14–16, bringing NASA scientists, telescope viewing, and dark-sky activities to venues around town. From talks at the Big Bear Convention Center to nighttime chairlift stargazing at Snow Summit and family programs at the Discovery Center, locals can dive into astronomy right in their backyard.
   

4. Big Bear's bald eagle: ‘Jackie's story has changed the future' (bigbeargrizzly.net) — Big Bear Lake’s beloved bald eagle Jackie, first hatched in Big Bear Valley in 2012 and watched worldwide via nest cameras, has died after intensive treatment at a raptor center. Her story galvanized millions of viewers to help protect her Fawnskin hunting grounds, including a major donation that secured eagle habitat from development and highlighted the importance of local conservation.
   

5. Competitors catch air at Big Bear's Game of SK8 (bigbeargrizzly.net) — Youth skaters from around the valley recently battled it out at Sugarloaf Skatepark’s annual Game of SK8, with local kids taking home trophies across several divisions. Behind the fun, Big Bear Lake–based Breakthrough Task Force used the event to promote drug- and alcohol-free activities and connect families with prevention and counseling resources throughout Big Bear Valley.
