UPDATED: Wilshire Boulevard Reopened After Suspicious Package Triggers Closure

WEST LOS ANGELES, CA — A "suspicious parcel" delivered to a West Los Angeles high-rise today triggered the evacuation of several floors of the building and the closure of a stretch of Wilshire Boulevard until a bomb squad determined there was no danger.

Firefighters were sent to Wilshire Bundy Plaza, a 14-story office building at 12121 Wilshire Blvd., shortly after 1 p.m., after the item was delivered to the fourth floor, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

A police bomb squad was also dispatched to the scene, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

According to the LAFD, the item was initially reported to be leaking an unknown material, but that turned out to be erroneous, according to department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

The investigation prompted the closure of Wilshire Boulevard in both directions between Bundy Drive and Amherst Avenue.

By 3:45 p.m., police had determined the building was safe, according to LAPD Officer Jenny Houser.
