35 Tickets Issued in 1 Day: Burlingame Police Assist in Motorcycle Traffic Safety Operation
"Officers looked for violations made by drivers and riders alike that could lead to motorcycle crashes."

REDWOOD CITY, CA – Dozens of tickets were issued in the Redwood City and Woodside area on Monday, as several area police agencies conducted a special motorcycle safety operation.
Burlingame Police Sgt. Jim Ford says officers from Redwood City Police, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, Foster City Police, South San Francisco Police and Burlingame Police all helped out in the operation.
"This deployment, which was funded by California’s Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) placed a heightened focus on the education and awareness of motorcycle safety," Ford said in a news release. "Officers looked for violations made by drivers and riders alike that could lead to motorcycle crashes."

In total, 38 stops were made by officers. They ended up issuing 35 citations in total. Some of those included (info provided by police):
- 13 citations were issued for unsafe speed violations
- 8 citations were issued for texting violations
- 5 citations were issued for cellphone violations
- 4 citations were issued for failing to obey a traffic sign
- 1 citation was issued for seatbelt violations
- 1 driver was cited for driving on a suspended license
According to Ford, 453 motorcyclists died on California roadways in 2013.

"California collision data reveals that primary causes of motorcycle-involved crashes include speeding, unsafe turning and impairment due to alcohol and other drugs by both riders and drivers alike," he said.
Funding for the Redwood City and Woodside operation came from state and federal grants.
