39 Tickets in 1 Day as Burlingame Police Assist in Peninsula 'Traffic Safety Operation'

Police say that a total of 50 people were contacted during this week's operation.

On Monday, Officers from the Atherton Police Department, Menlo Park Police Department, South San Francisco Police Department, and Burlingame Police Department participated in a traffic safety operation in Atherton and Menlo Park.

Traffic officers focused their efforts in trouble spots in the two areas and conducted saturated traffic enforcement and education to crackdown on drivers and pedestrians who violate traffic laws meant to protect all roadway users.

Officers focused on safety violations such as speeding, making illegal turns, failing to stop for signs and signals, failing to yield to pedestrians in cross walks, and other dangerous violations.

Officers made 50 stops and issued 39 citations. Of the 39 citations issued:

  • 17 citations were issued for cellphone violations
  • 5 citations were issued for texting violations
  • 3 citations were issued for seatbelt violations
  • 3 citations were issued for speed violations
  • 1 driver was cited for driving on a suspended driver’s license

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
