BASEBALL: Grotz, Panthers Shut Out Carlmont

Right-hander's four-hitter improves BHS's playoff outlook, knocks Scots out of tie for first in PAL Bay.

Burlingame High's Zac Grotz fired a four-hit shutout to stake the host Panthers to a 3-0 win over Carlmont in a Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division game on Wednesday afternoon. The senior right-hander struck out six and walked one in a gem that knocked Carlmont out of a tie for first place, and more importantly boosted the Panthers' Central Coast Section playoff hopes with three regular season games left.

The top three finishers in the PAL Bay earn automatic CCS berths, and Burlingame (12-11) now shares third place with Terra Nova at 6-5, two games behind league-leading El Camino and one game back of Carlmont.

Bryan Kuh executed a squeeze bunt to make it 1-0 in the third inning, and Chris Blanton finished 2-for-3 with an RBI as the Panthers downed Scots ace Daniel Madigan (6-3).
