3,000 Attend Community Open House, Tour New Hospital

New Mills-Peninsula hospital opens Sunday, May 15.

After watching the new hospital being built from the ground up, members of the community got their first chance to see the new Mills Peninsula Medical Center on Saturday, April 30. Everyone was invited to take their time throughout the self-guided tours.  More than 80 Mills-Peninsula Health Services (MPHS)  employees were stationed throughout the building to answer questions and offer directions.

The earthquake safety base isolation system under the hospital was very popular with attendees, as was the Family Birth Center. Roughly 150 expectant parents came for a private tour of where they anticipate welcoming their new family member after May 15, 2011, when the new hospital is officially scheduled to open. Visitors were also able to have a firsthand look at the patient rooms, ICU, Emergency Department, surgical rooms and other areas of the new medical center. The weather was sunny and mild, so many people spent time visiting and relaxing outside in the Meditation Gardens.
