"Anything Goes!"

I applaud the efforts of the performers in Burlingame High School's "Anything Goes"

This past Friday, I saw ’s Anything Goes musical for the first time, however I felt like I had already heard it a hundred times.

My brother Hunter played the lead, Billy Crocker. So, while I had not seen the musical before, I had heard many of the songs ringing through our house. After witnessing the hours he put in, especially the week before opening night, I have gained so much respect for thespians at our school. He would come home from rehearsal, which lasted about three hours, then he would practice even more, until each line was up to his standard.

During the final push to opening night, he had rehearsal from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on a Sunday. I asked him why he spent 10 weeks rehearsing for the musical when the performances were only for two weekends. He replied that he would not want do anything else. I guess everyone has their passions and callings.

Many of the actors in the musical were also part of the high school theatre troop that performed at the Ohlone College High School Theater Festival. The troop performed at Ohlone all day Friday, then those in the musical went directly to Burlingame High School to prepare for opening night. The next morning they left at 7 a.m. to go back to Ohlone and do it again. Talk about effort.
