Senioritis
Senioritis can strike high school seniors at any time throughout their last year of high school.
As my senior year was approaching, many of my friends had told me about the phenomenon of senioritis. To be honest, I did not believe it would happen to me. I was definitely not a procrastinator, and I always got my work done because school came before everything. I thought maybe senioritis would hit me towards the end of the year, but I had no idea what was coming.
It August 16--the first day of senior year. The day passed like any other first day of school: finding which friends to sit next to in your new classes, wondering where the new kid was from and catching up with those people you just didn’t seem to have time to see over the summer. But the only change occurred when I got home.
I was enrolled in three Advanced Placement classes, most of which had required summer homework. On the first day of school, I was notified of one test and one essay I would have within the next two days. Normally, I would’ve began reviewing my vocabulary and re-reading the notes I had written in my book, but once I got home I immediately went onto the computer, and before I realized it was 10 p.m.

This was only the first day of school.
Since that day almost three months ago, I have self-diagnosed myself with many other symptoms of senioritis, which includes laziness, lack of motivation and the ability to get easily distracted. Although I have yet to turn in any late assignments this year, this does not mean it was not a struggle to get them done. With the additional stress of finishing college applications and being editor-in-chief of my school newspaper, I find myself with too much to do with not enough motivation to do them.

Senioritis is real. If you’re a high school senior, you know what I’m talking about. If you’re in high school, be prepared for senior year. If your child is a senior, understand that we are ready to move on from high school and will do almost anything to not face the reality that we have a whole year left.
