Burlingame Library Offers Free Repairs

Event brings together fix-it volunteers with people who have broken items

Got something broken? Instead of tossing it out, you can get it fixed for free at the Repair Café on Saturday, June 16. It will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Lane Room at the Burlingame Public Library at 480 Primrose Road in Burlingame.

Volunteers skilled at fixing small appliances, jewelry, printers, clothing, lamps and other things will repair up to three items per person during the event. In addition, broken and outdated electronic items may be recycled at no charge in large e-waste bins available near the outside entrance to the Lane Room on Bellevue Avenue. At 1 p.m. Beeline Bikes will teach a free bike maintenance clinic on the front porch of the library, adjacent to the library’s new bike repair station. The clinic will include a flat tire repair, but Beeline will not evaluate individual bikes.

The Repair Café brings together fix-it volunteers with folks who have items in need of repair. Youths can be paired with a “fixer” to learn new skills. The event offers a chance to keep things out of the landfill as well as build community. While waiting for your turn, you can enjoy free refreshments and chat with others.
