The Burlingame Lions Citywide Spelling Bee
The 9th Annual Burlingame Lions Citywide Spelling Bee took place on May 2, 2017. Unlike standard Spelling Bees, this is a team competition pitting the eight Burlingame elementary schools against each other in an academic competition.
The schools participating in this event were Franklin, Hoover, Lincoln, McKinley, Roosevelt, Washington, Our Lady of Angels and St. Catherine of Siena. Each school sends a team of three students to represent their school in the Bee.

The student who outlasts all the other spellers is crowned the Champion Speller, and their school takes possession of the John Parish Memorial Trophy for the year.
This year, Allison Wall of Our Lady of Angels is our Champion Speller and her winning word to spell was “haiku”. Milo Evens of McKinley placed 2nd and Olivia Lau of Franklin placed 3rd. The top three spellers were awarded a gift certificate courtesy of Books, Inc. in Burlingame.
