Burlingame Police Announced DUI Patrols
Police say they'll be out in full force this weekend looking to curb drunk and drugged driving.

BURLINGAME, CA — Officers from the Burlingame Police Department will deploy in a DUI saturation patrol "to stop and arrest suspected alcohol and drug-impaired drivers," officials announced Thursday. The operation is set to begin at 6 p.m. Friday and last through 3 a.m. Saturday.
"High Visibility Enforcement using both DUI checkpoints and DUI Saturation Patrols has proven to lower the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug impaired crashes," police said in a news release announcing the operation. "Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized proactive DUI operations are conducted routinely."
Burlingame police shared the following advice to "ensure you have a safe night":

- Decide before you go out whether you plan to drink or drive. You can’t do both.
- If you plan to drink, designate a sober driver.
- Take a taxi, ride-share or public transportation. You can also look up sober ride programs using the National Directory of Designated Driver Services (NDDDS): http://bit.ly/ DDServices.
- See a friend or another patron impaired trying to get behind the wheel? Take the keys away and help them make other arrangements to get home safely.
- Report drunk drivers – call 911.
Funding for the operation comes from state and federal grants.
