Burlingame Shelter Rescues Tiny Kittens From Tight Spot [PHOTOS]

BREAKING: The small animals couldn't be seen, but were heard crying for help inside the machine, the Peninsula Humane Society says.

REDWOOD CITY, CA – Three kittens were rescued from a tight spot this week in Redwood City, after they apparently crawled inside the axle support arm of a boom lift. The animals, which have since been dubbed John, Wendy and Peter, were about three weeks old, according to the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA (PHS/SPCA).

The Humane Society says they believe the kittens had been in the lift, which is used to lift construction workers high into the air, for a few days before someone heard their cries for help on Monday.

"Using a portable inspection camera PHS/SPCA Animal Rescue and Control Officers crawled underneath the boom lift to take photos to determine exactly where the kittens were inside the boom lift and how many," the organization said in a news release.

An Animal Rescue & Control Officer looks at the inspection camera’s screen. The black cable of the camera can be seen winding its way into the axle support arm.

Using a portable inspection camera, they soon spotted three trapped kittens. Then, over the course of about an hour, the officers fashioned a bird net to capture and scoop out the felines one-by-one.

Crews did check to make sure there were no other kittens in the area, but couldn't find any, according to the PHS/SPCA. A mother cat was not found either.

"Other than being dehydrated, all three kittens were alert and in good condition," officials said. "They were immediately transported to PHS/SPCA’s Kitten Nursery in Burlingame for a veterinary checkup and treatment. Veterinary staff surmised the kittens may have been trapped in the boom lift for a few days until they were rescued."

John, Wendy and Peter will be available for adoption in Burlingame once they reach two pounds in weight.
